I installed this piece called “Elemental” for SculptureFest 2014 in Woodstock, Vermont. The Opening for the King Farm section was on 30 August. I took old doors and painted earth, air, fire and water elements on them. They are set in the cardinal points: north is earth, east is air, south is fire and west is water. The reflective stone is the center of the piece. It’s made of mosaic broken mirror. The doors are set 12 feet (4 meters) in the air and are spaced 30 feet (10 meters). The space they define has a ritual quality to it.

“Elemental” Installation at SculptureFest
Monday, September 15th, 2014Humanizing Skin: A Mural Project with High Schoolers
Thursday, December 12th, 2013I recently taught a 10-week mural class with 11 students at The Sharon Academy in Sharon, Vermont. In these photos, students are posing with their self-portrait “bodies.” I guided students through a process of cutting out their body shapes from plywood and then painting what they currently identify with on each. For instance Deniz, an exchange student from Turkey, has painted elements in his body that reflect his love for his homeland, travel, the sea, and basketball.
All of the students’ paintings will be screwed to the exterior walls of the high school. I call this “humanizing” the skin of the school.

Art of Showering
Friday, December 16th, 2011A friend and colleague, Carla Kimball, recently visited our home to see our shower. Sound strange? Perhaps, but I love to take discarded material and give it new life. In this instance in 2004, I used broken plates, tiles and mirrors to create a mosaic in our shower, photographed by Carla. On her Revealed Presence Photography blog, she accompanied the picture with the question: “How is your life a work of art?” Thanks for visiting!
